All About Ebates

That's the question I've been asking myself when it comes to purchasing items for our home. I recently discovered the beauty of Ebates. I'm bummed to think that I've gone years knowing about Ebates but never having signed up.

That all changed when I began reading the book Money Making Mom and learned about residual income, which is income incurred in addition to your regular income. I was inspired to find ways of supplementing what my husband and I make and being kind of familiar with Ebates, I decided to check it out before spending money my husband and I received for our first baby shower.

I was thrilled with the results!

Since I've been able to basically, get paid to shop, I wanted to share my findings with y'all in hopes that you can earn yourself some free money too!

1. Sign Up

Signing up for Ebates is fast and super easy and they are currently offering a $10 sign up bonus for new members! Simply enter your email address and create a password. From what I can remember, that's all it takes. In order to receive payment, you will need to enter either the email address connected to your PayPal account or your home address in order to receive a check. If you're concerned about spam email and don't want to give out your home address, consider creating an email account for Ebates and other promotional transactions.

2. Shop

In order to earn while you shop, make sure you go through Ebates and then click the link to the store you are purchasing from. Ebates will tell you the amount of cash back you'll be receiving for your purchase. I recommend installing the Ebates Cash Back Button on your browser which gives you a pop up each time you shop in an online store offering cash back. The pop up will tell you how much cash back you can earn and will allow you to earn by clicking on the pop up rather than going through the Ebates site.

3. Tell A Friend

Go Nike on yourself and just do it! You can tell friends via email, Facebook and by embedding a referral link on your website. I emailed my referral link to my mom and little sister and posted it on Facebook as well. Here's the caveat - once friends sign up, they must go through your referral link and use Ebates to make a purchase of at least $25. My mom signed up and used the link which credited $5 to my account and a friend also signed up which credited $45 more to my account - FREE MONEY!

4. Use Promo Codes

Seriously! I received a gift card for Christmas from my in laws (thanks mom and dad!) and decided to purchase some maternity tops from Old Navy. I went through Ebates to make my purchase (only 2% cash back but it adds up!) and saw that Ebates was offering a promo code. I went to the Old Navy website and saw that Old Navy was offering their own promo code as well. When I went to check out, I was able to use both promo codes!

5. Shop Around the Holidays

If you can, it may be wise to begin planning to purchase certain items around holidays and holiday weekends (Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, After Christmas, New Years, etc.). This is a time when most stores will offer great deals and prices will be lower than usual. Stores will also offer promo codes, free shipping and some even offer rewards once you spend a certain amount. This is a really great way to stretch your dollars!

6. Get Paid
Jessie J taught us that it's not about the money (money, money) - but really! When's the last time you said no to free money? Ebates is simple, easy and free! The only downside is having to wait to receive your payment - see the payment schedule above.

So far I've earned $87.47 by using Ebates to purchase items I was already planning on purchasing. I'm challenging myself in 2016, with the birth of our daughter, to buy diapers and wipes solely off of residual income and Ebates is just one of the ways I'm planning to do so.

How will you spend your free money?
